AWARDS / LINKS The Somerset Volunteer Fire Department was formed in 1955. The Somerset Volunteer Fire Department was formed in 1955. It is located in the City of Somerset in the semi-arid, SW region of Texas. It is a semi-industrial, rural suburb of San Antonio, Texas. Our primary response service area comprises 25 square miles and we have a population of 9993 residents, according to the 2000 US Census Bureau report. We also have mutual aid agreements and contracts for service with 24 other fire departments and communities immediately surrounding us which comprise an additional 40 square miles and a combined population of 43,783. The department is currently comprised of 19 active volunteer firefighters, 2 of which have dual certifications as EMTs and 3 of whom are also ECAs.

Somerset Volunteer Fire Department is Recognized for their Heroic Efforts Commissioner Sergio "Chico" Rodriguez presented the Somerset Volunteer Fire Department with Certificates of Recognition. These certificates were presented to Chief, Gary Booth in honor of the entire Fire Department and their life saving efforts involving the Family of four who drove off the Elm Creek Bridge back on March 15, 2005.
